We’ve been having fun lately going through some older blog posts that Katie wrote before some of the other team members starting writing blog posts for The Garden of Words. This was before GOW was an agency and Katie had to do all the work herself.
Building a Bench + Being the Bench is about gathering trusted people to work in your business so that you can take a day off, go on vacation, act like a human being with interests, and take care of yourself when you’re sick without feeling like your business is going to hell in a hand basket.
Every small business has experienced this, and Katie astutely made the observation that building your team is similar to how sports teams have players on the bench. They’re ready to go when needed. You can build a bench for your business AND you can sometimes sit on other people’s benches (if you’re a freelancer).
